Fire Risk Assessor Roles & Careers

This is a great opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced candidate competent in the field of Fire Risk Assessment who can demonstrate how they have worked to deadlines whilst supporting residents and colleagues to improve their properties' fire safety.

Responsibilities include supporting our customers in the completion of  Type 1 Fire Risk Assessments, written utilising provided templates written in accordance with PAS79, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety Act 2021, and the Fire Safety (England Regulations 2022).

Safe I.S. Ltd's priority is the safety of building users, residents, and colleagues and in that respect, the role will also include working with Responsible Persons directly and providing solutions for fire safety issues they may have. As fire safety is a core activity you will forge relationships and support colleagues from all areas of the business, so evidence of working collaboratively is important.

This Fire Risk Assessor role is part of a team of national assessors with an office-based administration team who will arrange all of your work via a calendar system, removing all of the administration tasks outside of completing the reports away from the individual assessor. You will be allocated an individual team leader as your main point of contact, ensuring all of your communication is not only swift but consistent.

The role is on a free-lance self-employed basis. This provides the Fire Risk Assessor with the freedom to create, build, and develop their own opportunity and ensures that as a service provider of other fire-related items, there is no conflict of interest in relation to items highlighted in an assessment. All of our current Fire Risk Assessors work on this basis nationally and have exclusively worked in this structure since 2007. We have found it offers the best of both worlds for all parties involved, from Safe I.S. Ltd, the Fire Risk Assessor, and the end user/customer.

Individual Requirements:

We are looking for someone with great enthusiasm for fire safety and a passion for excellent service who has experience and is competent in carrying out type 1 Fire Risk Assessments. The successful candidate will be a competent Fire Risk Assessor and be prepared to continue their learning in what is a developing field.

Relevant fire safety qualifications (such as NEBOSH (fire), FPA qualifications or CFPA diploma).
Registered with, or willing to register, with The Institution of Fire Safety Managers, Tiered Fire Risk Assessors Register (TFRAR),  Tier 2 or above
Or, the IFE Fire Risk Assessors Register, however IFSM is preferred.
Minimum 2 years experience working in a fire safety-related role as Fire Risk Assessor.
Ideally, experience conducting fire risk assessments in both residential and commercial premises.
Assessment/Property types:

The majority of our business is completing assessments of domestic and commercial properties under 8000 Sq Ft. Whether that be for large national corporate customers with hundreds of properties or small individual shop/flat/HMO owners. The balance of our works ranges from large industrial units, large domestic dwellings and schools to name a few of the properties we work in.

As part of the setup process, a discussion in relation to the type of work you wish to and are competent to complete will be had, and you will only be allocated the correct type of assessments based on that agreement. For Example, You may agree to complete Offices and communal areas of flats only. No other type of assessment would be scheduled.

Daily Schedule/Remuneration:

On average, the role would include visiting between 3-4 smaller sites per day (under 8000 Sq Ft). However, this is dependent on the size of the premises, and of course, for larger premises, the time on site will increase, and number of assessments per day decrease.

The role is therefore based on a price-per-assessment structure, based on the type and size of the premises. A full competitive pricing structure will be provided upon application.

Location of Works:

It would be the assessor's choice as to the areas they cover (defined by postcode areas) and all works scheduled would only be in the areas of the assessor's choice.

Upon successful completion of the interview stage, an area defined by postcode pre-fixes will be requested from you. Assessments will then only be booked within these defined areas. The area will be your decision with the understanding the larger the area the larger the potential work pool.

Types of Roles Available:

We currently have a vacancy (part-time or full-time) for a Fire Risk Assessor, with roles available from a minimum requirement of 4 days per month, up to a maximum of 4 days per week (on-site).  Working availability can be discussed to suit the successful candidates and can be flexible in the days worked, all we ask, is that by the 10th of the month prior, we have your available days for the coming month. So for example, by the 10th of August, we would ask for your availability for September.
