Fire Door Inspections for Restaurants

Expert Fire Door Inspections for Restaurants

Fire doors play an important role in helping contain fire and smoke within restaurants, supporting the protection of escape routes and giving people more time to leave safely. The combination of busy dining areas, commercial kitchens, deliveries and staff-only spaces can place considerable demands on doors throughout a restaurant. Frequent use, accidental impacts and demanding working conditions can all contribute to deterioration, making regular professional inspection an important part of effective fire safety management.

At Safe I.S., we provide expert fire door inspections for restaurants, helping businesses understand the condition of their fire doors and address defects before they become more significant concerns. Our specialist inspectors assess each door and its associated components, looking for issues including damage, defective closing mechanisms, deteriorated seals, excessive gaps and problems with hinges, latches or other hardware. We provide clear findings and practical recommendations so that you can make informed decisions about any remedial work required.

Safe I.S. is a member of the National Association of Fire Door Inspectors (NAFDI), demonstrating our commitment to recognised professional standards within the specialist fire door inspection industry. Our detailed reports provide a clear record of the inspection findings and recommended actions, helping restaurant operators and other Responsible Persons maintain effective fire door management.

Restaurant Fire Door Inspection FAQs

Practical Questions for Restaurant Owners and Responsible Persons

Here are answers to some common questions.

Fire doors can help contain fire and smoke and support protected escape routes. The high levels of activity found in many restaurants can also result in significant wear and accidental damage, making regular inspection particularly valuable.

There is no single inspection interval that is appropriate for every restaurant. The frequency should reflect factors such as how heavily doors are used, the building's circumstances and the likelihood of damage. Doors experiencing particularly intensive use may warrant more frequent checks.

We assess the condition and operation of the door assembly, including the door leaf, frame, hinges, latches, self-closing devices, seals, gaps, glazing and other relevant components. Defects are recorded within the inspection report.

The defect is recorded within the report and accompanied by a recommendation for appropriate remedial action. Depending on the nature of the problem, this could involve adjustment, repair, replacement of components or replacement of the door assembly.

A fire door that is held open may not be able to perform its intended function when required. If a door is regularly propped open, it is important to understand why and address the underlying operational issue.

A typical individual inspection takes around 10–15 minutes, although the actual time can vary depending on the condition, complexity and accessibility of the door. The overall visit will depend on how many doors are being inspected.
