Nursery fire safety equipment maintenance

Fire Extinguisher Services Trusted by Nursery Owners and Managers

In nursery environments, fire safety measures must protect very young children who rely entirely on staff for guidance and evacuation. From playrooms and sleep areas to kitchens, staff rooms, storage cupboards and outdoor-access points, fire extinguishers must remain clearly visible, correctly positioned and fully operational at all times. Reliable maintenance plays a vital role in supporting calm, safe responses in the unlikely event of a fire.

Safe I.S. provides structured fire extinguisher servicing designed specifically for nurseries and early years settings. Higher staff-to-child ratios, supervised movement and clearly managed escape routes all influence how equipment should be maintained and positioned. Our BAFE SP101 accredited engineers carry out detailed, multi-point servicing checks, examining pressure levels, safety components, internal and external condition, mounting security, signage, accessibility and suitability for the specific risks present within the nursery.

At the conclusion of every service visit, documents are issued that assist nursery managers in demonstrating compliance with fire safety legislation, Ofsted expectations, insurance requirements and internal safeguarding procedures.

BAFE SP101 Accreditation: Independent Verification Of Competence

The BAFE SP101 scheme exists to maintain high standards within the fire extinguisher servicing industry by ensuring technicians are properly trained, servicing processes are standardised and quality systems are independently audited. In nursery settings, where safeguarding, inspection and compliance standards are closely monitored, third-party certification offers valuable reassurance.

By appointing a BAFE SP101 accredited provider for fire extinguisher servicing in nurseries, owners and managers can demonstrate due diligence, support inspection readiness and help ensure fire protection equipment remains reliable for children, staff and visitors.

It provides reassurance that portable fire extinguishers throughout childcare premises are being inspected, maintained and documented correctly.

FAQs About Fire Extinguisher Servicing In Nurseries

We provide fire extinguisher servicing and maintenance for a wide range of nursery and early years settings. Below are answers to questions frequently raised by nursery managers and childcare providers.

All portable fire extinguishers within nursery premises should be serviced at least once every 12 months by a competent person, in accordance with BS 5306-3. Annual servicing helps confirm extinguishers remain operational, appropriate for the risks present and compliant with fire safety requirements.

Servicing involves checks of operating pressure, safety seals, discharge mechanisms, internal and external condition, mounting security, signage, visibility and accessibility. Refilling or minor component replacements are completed where required to maintain compliance.

Each extinguisher generally requires between three and five minutes to service. The overall visit duration depends on the number of units on site, with scheduling arranged to minimise disruption to childcare activities and daily routines.

We service all common portable fire extinguisher types found in nursery environments, including CO₂, foam, water including water mist and water additive, powder including ABC and Class D, wet chemical, and fire blankets.

No none at all, our quotations include standard service consumables required under British Standards. If additional work is identified, it is clearly explained and agreed in advance of being carried out.

Comprehensive service records are issued after every visit, detailing work completed, the condition of each extinguisher and any recommendations. These records support inspection requirements, insurance validation and ongoing fire safety management.
