Specialist Fire Safety Assessments for Further Education

At Safe I.S., we provide professional fire risk assessments for colleges, supporting college management teams, estates departments, facilities managers, education providers and other Responsible Persons. Our qualified fire risk assessors examine the characteristics and use of your premises, considering teaching areas, specialist facilities, escape routes, fire safety systems and the people who may be affected by fire.

Our assessors are registered on the National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR) at Intermediate or Advanced levels, while Safe I.S. is third-party accredited to the BAFE SP205 scheme. This provides independently verified assurance that your assessment is being delivered by competent professionals and an appropriately accredited organisation.

Contact us today to discuss your requirements and receive a free no-obligation quotation.

Proud to be Third-Party Accredited to BAFE SP205 for Colleges

The BAFE SP205 scheme is designed to give customers and Responsible Persons peace of mind that their fire risk assessments are being carried out by a competent and regularly audited provider. As part of this scheme, BAFE and its licensed certification bodies regularly inspect SAFE I.S.'s records, procedures, and a random selection of client properties to ensure all assessments meet the required legal and technical standards.

BAFE is the independent registration body for third-party certified fire protection companies across the UK, maintaining a national register of quality fire safety service providers. This accreditation specifically recognises SAFE I.S.'s competency and adherence to the stringent requirements for conducting thorough and compliant fire risk assessments.

Institute of Fire Safety Manager, National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR)

The National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR) is a national, publicly available register of competent fire risk assessors whose qualifications have been independently verified against a defined industry standard. As a Responsible Person or duty-holder, you can use the official NFRAR website to check registered assessors and their declared competence level before commissioning a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA).

NFRAR recognises three competence levels, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced, which correspond to the complexity and risk profile of the buildings each assessor is qualified to assess.

To achieve registration, assessors must provide supporting evidence, including recent FRAs, maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD), hold suitable professional indemnity or public liability insurance, and meet professional conduct requirements.

All our fire risk assessors are registered with NFRAR at either Intermediate or Advanced level. Combined with our BAFE SP205 accreditation, this provides transparent, verifiable assurance that the assessor and business you commission are appropriately qualified and competent to complete your Fire Risk Assessment in accordance with UK fire safety legislation.

College Fire Risk Assessment FAQs

Useful Guidance for College Management and Estates Teams

Fire risk assessments for colleges need to reflect the diversity of educational buildings, activities and occupants. Here are answers to some common questions.

The assessment considers relevant parts of the premises, which may include classrooms, laboratories, workshops, kitchens, offices, communal areas, corridors, stairways, storage spaces and other facilities depending on the college's layout and activities.

Yes. We can assess individual college buildings and larger campuses with multiple buildings, specialist teaching facilities and complex fire safety arrangements. The assessment is tailored to the characteristics and use of the premises.

Colleges accommodate large numbers of students, staff and visitors and can contain a wide range of activities and potential fire hazards. A suitable fire risk assessment helps identify risks, consider people at risk and evaluate whether existing precautions are adequate.

You'll receive a detailed electronic PDF report containing the assessment findings, recommendations and relevant photographs. This provides a clear record that can be used to help manage and prioritise fire safety improvements.

The Responsible Person should review the assessment regularly and whenever there is reason to believe it is no longer valid or significant changes occur to the premises, fire safety measures or organisation of work.

Our assessor discusses the premises and its operation with the relevant Responsible Person before inspecting the property. They identify hazards, consider people at risk and evaluate existing fire safety measures before providing significant findings and recommendations.
