Identifying Risks and Strengthening Fire Safety Arrangements

A suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment is an essential part of managing fire safety in community centres and clubs. With different groups, activities and events taking place throughout the year, risks can change depending on how the premises are being used. A professional assessment helps identify significant hazards, consider the people who may be at risk and determine whether existing fire safety measures are appropriate.

At Safe I.S., we provide detailed Fire Risk Assessments tailored to the individual premises and the way they are operated. Our qualified assessors systematically examine potential fire hazards, means of escape, existing precautions and management arrangements before providing clear, prioritised recommendations. This gives Responsible Persons a practical understanding of the risks present and the actions needed to improve fire safety.

All of our fire risk assessors are registered with the National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR) at either Intermediate or Advanced level, while Safe I.S. is third-party accredited to the BAFE SP205 scheme. This provides transparent, independently verified assurance that your assessment is being completed by appropriately qualified professionals and a trusted fire safety specialist.

Proud to be Third-Party Accredited to BAFE SP205 for Community Centres & Clubs

The BAFE SP205 scheme is designed to give customers and Responsible Persons peace of mind that their fire risk assessments are being carried out by a competent and regularly audited provider. As part of this scheme, BAFE and its licensed certification bodies regularly inspect SAFE I.S.'s records, procedures, and a random selection of client properties to ensure all assessments meet the required legal and technical standards.

BAFE is the independent registration body for third-party certified fire protection companies across the UK, maintaining a national register of quality fire safety service providers. This accreditation specifically recognises SAFE I.S.'s competency and adherence to the stringent requirements for conducting thorough and compliant fire risk assessments.

Institute of Fire Safety Manager, National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR)

The National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR) is a national, publicly available register of competent fire risk assessors whose qualifications have been independently verified against a defined industry standard. As a Responsible Person or duty-holder, you can use the official NFRAR website to check registered assessors and their declared competence level before commissioning a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA).

NFRAR recognises three competence levels, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced, which correspond to the complexity and risk profile of the buildings each assessor is qualified to assess.

To achieve registration, assessors must provide supporting evidence, including recent FRAs, maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD), hold suitable professional indemnity or public liability insurance, and meet professional conduct requirements.

All our fire risk assessors are registered with NFRAR at either Intermediate or Advanced level. Combined with our BAFE SP205 accreditation, this provides transparent, verifiable assurance that the assessor and business you commission are appropriately qualified and competent to complete your Fire Risk Assessment in accordance with UK fire safety legislation.

Community Centre & Club Fire Risk Assessment FAQs

Answers for Trustees, Managers and Responsible Persons

We've answered some common questions below to help facilities managers understand the key considerations of a fire risk assessment.

Our assessor examines the premises, identifies significant fire hazards, considers people who may be at risk and evaluates the effectiveness of existing fire safety measures. The assessment also considers how the building is managed and used.

These premises can host different activities, groups and events, meaning occupancy and fire risks may vary. An assessment helps Responsible Persons understand the risks and determine whether additional measures are needed.

Yes. The use of individual areas and the activities taking place can affect fire risk. We consider relevant uses, occupancy patterns and associated hazards when completing the assessment.

The Responsible Person should review the assessment regularly and whenever there is reason to believe it is no longer valid or significant changes occur to the premises, fire safety measures or organisation of work.

Yes. We work with a wide range of Responsible Persons, including community organisations, trustees, clubs and other groups. Our reports are designed to provide clear, practical information that can be understood and acted upon.

You'll receive a detailed PDF report containing the significant findings, recommendations and relevant photographs. This provides a clear record of the assessment and helps you identify and prioritise any necessary improvements.
