Proud to be Third-Party Accredited to BAFE SP205 for Shops

The BAFE SP205 scheme is designed to give customers and Responsible Persons peace of mind that their fire risk assessments are being carried out by a competent and regularly audited provider. As part of this scheme, BAFE and its licensed certification bodies regularly inspect SAFE I.S.'s records, procedures, and a random selection of client properties to ensure all assessments meet the required legal and technical standards.

BAFE is the independent registration body for third-party certified fire protection companies across the UK, maintaining a national register of quality fire safety service providers. This accreditation specifically recognises SAFE I.S.'s competency and adherence to the stringent requirements for conducting thorough and compliant fire risk assessments.

Institute of Fire Safety Manager, National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR)

The National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR) is a national, publicly available register of competent fire risk assessors whose qualifications have been independently verified against a defined industry standard. As a Responsible Person or duty-holder, you can use the official NFRAR website to check registered assessors and their declared competence level before commissioning a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA).

NFRAR recognises three competence levels, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced, which correspond to the complexity and risk profile of the buildings each assessor is qualified to assess.

To achieve registration, assessors must provide supporting evidence, including recent FRAs, maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD), hold suitable professional indemnity or public liability insurance, and meet professional conduct requirements.

All our fire risk assessors are registered with NFRAR at either Intermediate or Advanced level. Combined with our BAFE SP205 accreditation, this provides transparent, verifiable assurance that the assessor and business you commission are appropriately qualified and competent to complete your Fire Risk Assessment in accordance with UK fire safety legislation.

Shop Fire Risk Assessment FAQs

Key Information for Retailers and Responsible Persons

We've answered some common questions below.

Shops can accommodate customers who may be unfamiliar with the premises while containing stock, packaging, displays and electrical equipment that can contribute to fire risk. A professional assessment helps identify significant hazards and evaluate the effectiveness of existing precautions.

Yes. Our assessments can be tailored to individual shops and retail units, including premises operating within larger commercial or shopping environments.

You'll receive a detailed electronic PDF report containing significant findings, practical recommendations and relevant photographs. This provides a clear record of the assessment and helps you prioritise any necessary improvements.

The duration depends on the size, layout, stock levels, occupancy and complexity of the premises. Larger shops or those with extensive storage areas may require additional assessment time. The expected duration can be discussed during the quotation process.

The Responsible Person should review the assessment regularly and whenever there is reason to believe it is no longer valid or significant changes occur to the premises, stock, layout, activities, fire safety measures or organisation of work.

Safe I.S. combines experienced fire risk assessors with independent third-party accreditation. Our assessors are registered with NFRAR at Intermediate or Advanced levels, while Safe I.S. is accredited to BAFE SP205, providing additional assurance around professional competence and assessment quality.
